Where Everyday Life Meets Extraordinary Beauty
Adventure doesn't only exist in remote wilderness. Sometimes it lives right outside someone's front door.
When you picture Alaska, what comes to mind?
Towering mountains.
Massive glaciers.
Wildlife roaming free.
You'd be right.
But what may surprise you is that Alaska's largest city is surrounded by all of those things.
Welcome to Anchorage.
This is a city where snow capped mountains frame the skyline, moose wander through neighborhoods, and bald eagles soar overhead. It's where local coffee shops, fresh seafood restaurants, scenic trails, and breathtaking landscapes all exist together.
I think that's what makes Anchorage so memorable.
It reminds us that adventure doesn't always mean leaving civilization behind. Sometimes it's found where people have learned to live in harmony with one of the wildest places on Earth.
More Than Alaska's Largest City
Anchorage is home to nearly half of Alaska's population, making it the state's cultural and economic heart. Yet even here, nature is never far away.
One moment you're enjoying lunch downtown.
The next, you might spot a moose grazing in a nearby park or watch a floatplane lift off toward a glacier.
That's everyday life in Anchorage.
A Place Rich in Culture
One of the things I like about Anchorage is the opportunity to learn about the people who have called Alaska home for thousands of years.
The Alaska Native Heritage Center shares the traditions, stories, artwork, and cultures of Alaska's Indigenous peoples. It's a wonderful reminder that Alaska's story began long before cruise ships and railroads.
Travel becomes even more meaningful when we take time to understand the people who shaped the places we're visiting.
Life Under the Midnight Sun
If you've been following along since Fairbanks, you've probably noticed one thing.
Summer days in Alaska seem to last forever.
With up to 19 hours of daylight, evenings become another opportunity to explore, enjoy dinner outside, or simply admire the incredible scenery.
Don't be surprised if you look at your watch and realize it's much later than you thought!

Keep your camera close. Wildlife often appears when you least expect it.
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Anchorage is a wonderful city to explore on foot.
Try fresh Alaskan seafood if you have the chance. Delicious!!
If time allows, stop at a local coffee shop. Sometimes the best travel memories come from the simplest moments.

When I think about Anchorage, I don't think about it as Alaska's biggest city. I think about balance. It's where you realize you don't have to choose between modern comforts and breathtaking wilderness.
Sometimes the most extraordinary life is simply one lived a little closer to nature.
That thought stays with me. I hope Anchorage surprises you as much as it surprises me.
