Where the Mountains Meet the Sea

Some journeys don't have a destination. They have a turning point.

There are places that make you stop and quietly whisper, "Wow." Seward is one of those places.

Nestled along the shores of Resurrection Bay, Seward is surrounded by towering mountains, sparkling waters, and glaciers that seem to appear around every corner. It's the kind of place where nature takes center stage, and all you want to do is pause and take it all in.

As we continue our Alaska adventure, Seward marks an exciting transition. We've traveled through Alaska's interior, explored Denali, and experienced the culture of Anchorage. Now we arrive where the mountains meet the sea, and our journey begins to take on a whole new perspective.

A Town Built Between Mountains and Water

Seward may be a small coastal town, but it's one of Alaska's most beloved destinations.

Known as the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, Seward offers breathtaking scenery, abundant marine wildlife, and a rich maritime history. It's also where many unforgettable Alaska adventures begin.

As you stroll through town, you'll notice colorful harbors, fishing boats returning with the day's catch, and mountains rising dramatically in every direction.

It's easy to understand why so many visitors fall in love with Seward.

A Drive You'll Never Forget

The journey to Seward is just as memorable as the destination itself.

Traveling along the Seward Highway, we'll follow the shoreline of Turnagain Arm, often considered one of the most scenic drives in North America.

Keep your eyes open.

You may spot waterfalls cascading down mountainsides, Dall sheep high on the cliffs, beluga whales in the inlet, or even a moose along the roadside.

Sometimes the road itself becomes part of the adventure.

Alaska at Its Wildest

Seward reminds us that Alaska's wilderness doesn't end at the mountains.

Here, the ocean becomes part of the story. Sea otters float peacefully in quiet coves. Puffins nest along rocky cliffs. Bald eagles soar overhead.

The water reflects towering peaks that seem to rise straight from the sea.

It's one of those places where you'll find yourself reaching for your camera, then putting it back down because you simply want to enjoy the moment.

Dress in layers. Coastal weather can change quickly.

Bring binoculars if you have them. Wildlife often appears when you least expect it.

Keep your camera close, but don't forget to spend a few moments simply looking around.

Some of the best memories are the ones you experience without a screen between you and the view.

Sheila's Reflection

When I think about Seward, I think about anticipation. It's the moment when you realize our Alaska journey is changing once again. We've traveled through forests, crossed vast wilderness, and stood beneath North America's tallest mountain.

Now the ocean stretches before us.

For me, Seward is where excitement quietly builds. The cruise is just ahead. New adventures are waiting beyond the harbor. And I can't help but smile knowing we're about to experience them together.
